SURROUNDINGS OF HOTEL
Surrounding includes important country element in the centre of the town, today castle park called Husovy sady, which is rest of the last castle garden and preserve with interesting smaller water areas, dendrologicaly rather rich.
The park is attractive with modification of water flow and pond areas on the “Lobezský” creek with nice cost parts. There were also glasshouses with well-known pineapple cultivation at Nostic-Rhinek´s era near the park.
Regarding more important woods we would like to mention full grown specimen of silver maple, which is tallest in Sokolov region with circumference of trunk almost 4 meters. First of all huge home woods (vegetation of alder and oaks) are decoration and remembered original leaf vegetation of Sokolov basin.
There is a nice children´s playground just next to the hotel – for smallest children (climbing towers, wood towers, slides, swangs etc.), for taller children rope pyramid and there are cycling road, in-line road and educational road focused on history of Sokolov parks, botany and ecology, just around the hotel …more
Sokolov castle is located just few steps from the hotel. It is late renascence and early baroque building, which was built on place of original fort from 13th century and late gothic Šlik´s castle. Nostics got castle in 1622 after the battle on Bílá Hora (White Mountain) and they rebuilt it. Surrounding of castle was modificate according to French style in first half of 18th century. Count Bedřich Nostic had the castle repaired in classicism style in 1800-1805. Nowadays the castle includes four wings building with closed quadrangle with four towers. North towers are cylindric and south are angular with cylindric bases, what is interesting. Since 1960 there is placed a museum with focus on local history, history of mining, geology and ecology in the castle.
